Most organizations have security programs in place to guard personal and corporate information. Companies must protect not only the traditional company secrets, but also employee records, payroll information, passwords, etc. Consider the following laws:
- HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY and ACCOUNTABILITY ACT (HIPAA) - Enacted in 1996, HIPPA places strict guidelines on medical organizations to safeguard patient privacy. This act calls for thorough protection of medical records including company, patient and employee information.
- GRAMM-LEACH-BLILEY ACT - This act places significant restrictions on the use of customer information by those in the financial industry. Non-public personal, financial, and health information must be safeguarded and include proper disposal procedures.
- FACTA 2003 - This Federal Act places new regulations on the management of credit information. The Federal Trade Commission deems shredding the “proper disposal” of credit information. now will be shredding.
Additionally, the US Supreme Court ruled that once records are placed in a dumpster you no longer have ownership of the records. This leaves trashed information wide open to confiscation. Consider the potential damage of leaving your account numbers and financial plans out for the taking.
What do I have to shred?
To be safe, you should be shredding all old records, including but not limited to:
- financial records
- bank statements
- credit card receipts
- payroll records
- personal information
- insurance documents
- scratch paper
- blueprints
- inventory records
How can I be sure no one will see the sensitive information?
We provide locked bins to collect your documents. When our truck arrives for a scheduled pickup, we will begin by checking in with a company representative. We encourage you to witness the shredding process. Upon completion, you will receive a signed Certificate of Destruction.
Do I have to remove staples, paper clips, etc.?
No! Don't waste your time removing staples, paper clips, or those large black binder clips. Our trucks can grind it all.
Will the paper be recycled?
Yes. Once your information is indecipherable, Dynamite Document Destruction will take the shredded papers to a certified recycling center. We believe in environmental responsibility. For every ton of paper recycled, we will save:
- 11 small pulp tress
- 7000 gallons of water
- 3 cubic yards of limited landfill space
